Banking Energy since March 2017

With longer daylight hours our system has been producing surplus power 4 months in a row. Running A/C on hot days recently I checked the energy production and was happy to see that a surplus was being generated despite the continuous A/C. Total excess generation for current annual billing cyce = 1283 kWh. I now own a fully electric automobile fueled by a system which looks almost as good as the car! One caveat for potential residential customers: OR state income tax credit and Energy Trust of Oregon funds require >/= 75% TSRF (total solar resource fraction). Get yours calculated before deciding- it makes a large difference in initital cost outlay (my TSRF = 74%, so no $ from ETO or OR state tax credit). I went ahead anyway and have no regrets.

Terrible Customer Service, No Follow-Through

We chose to start our solar journey in July 2015. We were deciding between Legend Solar and another company. We went with Legend because they were using SunPower panels, and we were impressed with the technology used. That was the end of being impressed with this company. Installation: The people who did the installation were just okay. However, they tried to do some funny business with the installation that did not pass fire code. They had to return to fix the issues, which delayed getting up and running until after the main summer months. Because of this delay, we never did get the "community barbecue" promised by the sales guy. Is that a big deal? Not at all, but it was a warning sign for things to come. Additionally, during one of the follow-up visits, one of the technicians actually left our gate open and our dog got out. This is not acceptable and could have been disastrous. Fast forward to now. We have had the panels in for over 2 years. They produce significantly less than advertised. In part, this is because the system went down a good bit this summer. I hadn't been monitoring regularly myself, and apparently neither had the company. It took them more than a month to discover our system had been down. We went through THREE people coming out and seeing, yup, the system is down/went down AGAIN, for them to even START the process of getting this corrected through SunPower's warranty. The last down was almost 2 months ago, so of course nothing is getting replaced because it is working now. Not sure what the last electrician did, but I suppose if it works at all we should be happy. At the same time the system went down, we questioned why we hadn't had our promised annual review. Oh, sure, we'll take care of that. See, our contract states they will review annually to see if the system is meeting expectations and then refund some of the money we might be out if it hasn't. The person who came in, met with my husband told him the calculations were already done and yes, we were owed a few hundred dollars for each year. Didn't review the calculations, didn't explain ANYTHING. But, okay, if you are going to refund some of that money, we thought we would hold our peace. Two months later, we STILL don't have a check, no one is contacting us, we simply get the run-around about "they are checking on it." I am tired of having to push for everything with this company, not getting the service that was promised, which includes twice a year cleanings they have never honored either, despite us asking several of the people we have talked to, and having a system that doesn't produce at all as they said it would. I am not sure if the problem is the technology itself or simply Legend Solar's inability and lack of desire to correct the issue. I won't say I wouldn't recommend the solar panels for this reason. I will say I will NOT recommend working with Legend Solar to anyone. Their customer service is abysmal at best. Many of the folks we have worked with are nice enough while dealing with us, but only 1 electrician has followed up and done what he said he would. One person out of probably 15 to 20. We feel the company has breached their contract and will be following-up accordingly. I am also posting this review so that other homeowners might be better informed when choosing their own solar systems and installers. What I wouldn't give to go back in time and make a different decision.
