Questionable and Unfair Treatment of Customers

I want to share my disappointing experience with 8M Solar to warn potential customers about their questionable business practices and lack of commitment to honoring agreements. I signed my contract with 8M Solar on September 24, 2024, after securing all necessary approvals from my HOA and Duke Energy’s rebate program. My installation was originally scheduled for late October 2024. However, on October 17, 2024, they informed me that the Powerwall was unavailable and asked me to proceed with a partial installation while paying for it in advance. I declined, as I wanted the entire system installed at once. I agreed to wait until November 1, 2024, and they assured me they would come back with a new installation date. Despite multiple follow-ups, 8M Solar failed to provide any updates by 2024 and provided the date of December 31, 2024, when they finally scheduled the installation. However, this date would cause me to lose access to essential refunds and credits for 2024, which I had been requesting from the beginning. Meanwhile, my neighbor, who had not even paid the initial deposit and signed up for the project after November, had his system installed and operational before the end of December 2024. When I questioned this to 8msolar, I was told that he was selling his home, so they prioritized his installation over mine—even though I had paid earlier and had been waiting for months. As a result, my installation was pushed to February 27, 2025, which was inconvenient for me as I would be out of the country for two months. When I requested an earlier or later date, they refused, saying it was the "earliest available." They also stated that if I postponed further, I would be charged an additional $1,200. Given their unfair prioritization and disregard for my repeated requests, I decided to cancel the project. Now, they are charging me a total of $3,250 in fees—including $1,750 for prep and application fees (which is understandable) and an additional $1,500 in cancellation fees, which is completely unfair. Meanwhile, my neighbor, who never paid the $3,000 deposit, would not be liable for a similar cancellation fee had he chosen to cancel, making it clear that 8M Solar used my deposit as leverage to delay my installation while prioritizing others. This experience highlights serious concerns about 8M Solar’s business ethics, transparency, and fairness in customer treatment. If anyone has insight into legal options or how to formally escalate this complaint, I would appreciate any guidance. For those considering 8M Solar, beware of their deceptive scheduling practices and the risk of being pushed aside for new customers. I strongly caution against trusting them to honor their commitments. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with 8M Solar? Let’s hold them accountable.
