A good investment, IF you do the research

I’ve had solar panels from Palmetto for a smidge under one year now. Late October 2023 install and early October 2024 review. I feel that overall my experience is a positive one, but there are several things I as a potential customer could have done better on, and a few the company could have done better on. First, the sales process. They’re not pushy. It was an efficient process from deciding to go with them until the panels were installed. And generally I am satisfied. However, one point of contention I have is they could have explained the rebate process better. We decided to go to solar because of a generous federal rebate which the salesman made it seem like we would be getting cash back which we could either put towards the cost of the system or keep. And come to find out, the rebate is in the form of a tax credit. Not a “discount” like we were led to believe. Furthermore, that tax credit only applies if you owe on your taxes. So if you’re getting a refund, you’re not able to take advantage of the credit. However, that credit does apply until it runs out (I think). Next up, they wanted an energy bill so they could estimate how many solar panels we would need. So we gave them our latest energy bill, which happened to be September and we hadn’t really used a large amount of energy. It would be far more helpful if they asked for a years worth of energy bills so they could get a more accurate picture of our households energy consumption. If they insist on going one bill, make sure you are giving them a bill with a lot of power usage so you are getting an adequate amount of panels installed. My next gripe ties directly into the last one; our energy bill is not zero as promised. We still get a bill from Duke power, albeit a greatly reduced one. I have a neighbor who went solar with the same company and she says she isn’t getting a power bill, only a solar bill. So I think we are mainly at fault there because we didn’t have enough panels installed. But I think the company bears some blame there, and getting a better picture of energy usage would in my opinion fix this. So overall my too long, didn’t read version is that you need to do thorough research into whether it’s right for you, and how to go about it if so. Don’t go in uneducated, which I am embarrassed to admit, we did.

Panels don’t work

I had the panels put on in December of 2024. They have never produced any solar energy. I’ve called Palmetto multiple times and they acknowledge that I need a technician to go out but they can’t seem to get me a tech. Now I am paying the monthly solar panel charge plus my electric bill. They can’t give me a time line of when this will be fixed. I DON’T ADVISE USING THIS COMPANY!!!

Horrible Company

We live in Texas. Last year a salesperson from Palmetto in collaboration with Tesla came to our house and talked about a plan to install solar panels on our roof. The plan was to lease our roof, the installation will be done and we will pay the monthly cost for the power that the panels will generate. Also note that we entered into a PPA with Palmetto/Lightreach. First nightmare - Bad installation. The wiring was messed up with inadequate wires for the power/panels Second nightmare - The salesperson who sold us the plan quit and did not enter information properly. Third nightmare - So called "project manager" Michaela was bad in addressing and helping out Fourth - We got charged for the "power" even before the panels were functioning. Finally the panels were claimed to be functioning. The Tesla app shows that ~ 1035 kWH of power was claimed to be generated by the panel in Feb 2025. ;while there was still power drawn from the grid ~ 400 kWH as well. From our bill for same month last year and the year before we used 350 to 400 kWH of power. If we did generate over 1000 kWH of power, why are we still using from the grid a similar amount that we used last year same time? We are getting bills from our regular utility provider for the power as well. No one from Palmetto or Lightreach is willing/able to help out. We have no clue what to do at this point.

Worst

I’m in a difficult situation right now. I recently sold my house and purchased new clothes, but I just found out that the title company called to inform me that the solar panel company has placed a lien on the property. We've called several times, but I still haven’t received payment for my home. The title company is holding onto the funds because of the lien, and the lawyers and title company have not been responsive to our calls; they only send emails. I’m feeling very frustrated.

Palmetto is a nightmare

The consulation, the design, the install all great no issues. The company that financed Palmetto/Lightreach is a nightmare to deal with. I have had nothing but issues, and each time I have called they will "escalate the situation" but then nothing happens. I call again ask to speak to a supervisor 1st time they're not available, all in a meeting, 2nd time, they're not available they all left for the day, 3rd time they're not available all in training..... and so on and so on. Today I got a name of a person that is suppossed to be handling my transition as we just sold our house, but I can not talk to him, He doesn't have a phone, or an email, or anyway of communicating with the outside world. The company that did my install and did my design and explained everything, Demand company, absolutely great.... their finance company that they partner with is literally the worst. So good luck if using them, and you actually need anything more than paying your bill.

Absolutely no customer service

Once Palmetto made the sale and installed the solar, they dropped us from all service. Our system stopped generating electricity and they could care less. We have made three appointments for them to come from Pittsburgh to diagnose repairs and they have been no-shows all three times. This is a case of let’s make the sale and then forget about them. Do not use this company ever.

Palmetto solar not Closing permits/not finishing Installation

Palmetto opened permits for installation, but never bothered to close them. System installed in May 2024, permits pending and will expire in 150 days. Sales rep. Kyle Will doesn’t bother to answer at all. Installation was done in Palm Beach County in Florida. I will file a complaint with the county and they will be dealing with my attorney. All, stay away!!!

Less than pleased

Hopefully the design and consultant "team" gets your system right the first time, because they will not - WILL NOT - add panels to your system when it under-produces. They don't care of you're paying for the system and an electricity bill on top of that - when I was faced with this issue, I was basically told it was my fault and the system should have been changed during the design phase. Now, if I were a solar expert, which I obviously am not, number one - I would have designed the system myself, and number two, it would have been designed to produce MORE energy than I use!!! Is that not the purpose of solar in the first place? Extremely disappointed in their customer service and the company as a whole. I will be contacting the installers directly... as they said panels could very easily be added to the system. They must know something Palmetto does not.

THIS COMPANY WILL S A JOKE. After one of having the panels they stop working . It’s been 2full months now and my panels are not fixed. No one ever called me to let me know it’s not working. When I found out it wasn’t working I had to cal them multiple times to get some to come out and look at my panels. After a month of me calling almost every day. Now they say they sent the part to fix my panels. I still have not seen the part. I have to call again to see where the part is. This company just lies to their customers. I m about to call the Bbb. I’m one very unhappy customer.

Excellent installation!

My solar system was installed today and I commend panel crew; Jon, Frank, Patrick, Dave and electrician Jake for the excellent work they did with the installation. They were very courteous and explained things very well. They kept a clean and safe work area and worked well with each other. Also, hats off to sales guy Mason for explaining everything and fielding my questions.

Great Job by Palmetto - Rep; scheduler; installer

We cannot be more pleased with the entire process of getting solar panels installed on our home. From the first meeting with Mason Pfiefer, our Palmetto rep, the entire process went smoothly and better than we could have ever hoped for. Mason is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and professional about solar energy/panels, answering every question or concern we had as well as taking care of the entire process from start to finish. I would recommend Palmetto to anyone thinking about having solar panels installed on their home. Palmetto and our rep, Mason Pfiefer, are the BEST!!!

A Year In Review w/Mason at Palmetto Solar

If you are considering going solar, consider Palmetto. And more specifically Mason Pfeifer as your salesman. We just had our one year review meeting with Mason, and are more than pleased with our decision to add solar panels to our home. We did buy the system outright, but they also have lease options. Not only did we received a large tax credit last year, we have also avoided a 25% DLC rate increase; and we saved well over $1,785 this past year!! Throughout the past year, Mason has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and expertise, as our Palmetto solar panel salesman. From the initial consultation to the installation, Mason provided clear details, and made sure we understood what to expect. He even brought us lunch!!! His knowledge of the product and services offered by Palmetto is impressive. He is dedicated to customer satisfaction, and his commitment to transparency and integrity made the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable. We highly recommend Mason and Palmetto Solar to anyone considering making the switch to solar. We are grateful for his assistance throughout this journey. Thank you Mason!!
