Do not recommend
There are so many things that went south with Ilum and I don’t want to take the time to detail every detail: however, their communication is absolutely awful. I was talked into Ilum by the sales manager, John, who convinced me that he will beat any price (not true because he was not the lowest price) and his company is the best. After reviewing many estimates, I went against my gut and chose Ilum. There were issues nearly immediately upon signing paperwork; From having someone show up to my house without an appointment and setting up a ladder against my house (the only reason I knew someone was here is because my dog barked), to Ilum nearly installing the panels without a permit (only because I asked about the permit, did the installers not do the work), to me having to call the city myself to find out the status of the permit and why it’s taking so long and requesting copies of everything from the city because I no longer trust Ilum, to it being three weeks after the installation that I have to email the project manager to find out what is going on because nobody has contacted me yet again, to not having any idea if my solar panels were running two weeks after the final inspection, to being clueless about how the app works-I am beyond frustrated and quite frankly, I am pissed off. I was told by the sales manager, Josh, he would be coming to my house to show me how the app works; however, instead of calling me to reschedule, I got an email that I didn’t see until seven hours later. Long story short, no contact from him as I write this review. I found out after the fact that I am the first client in Atascadero that this company has worked with and they didn’t know the process with the city. The installers were the best part of this company and the reason Ilum gets two stars rather than one. All four of them couldn’t believe what had gone on. They were all excellent, informative, and pleasant to work with. As I sit here writing this, I am quite pissed off and still don’t know how to use the app. I’m also concerned that the panels aren’t producing what they should be. Josh told me that one of the panels wasn’t working properly however there was no indication of that in the app…I thought the app would let me know.. Save yourself a headache, don’t use Ilum.

Excellent solar panel and home battery installer
I recently had Ilum Solar add 3.8kW of solar panels to our roof, complementing the 4.8 kw system we had installed by a different company 12 years ago. In addition, we wanted a home battery system installed. Ilum recommended the Sonnen battery and we went with the Eco10 product. Bottom line: Ilum did a great job. They did the work very quickly and very professionally. They communicated with us regularly before, during, and after completion of the work. The solar panels had a problem a few days after installation due to heavy rains. Ilum dispatched someone the day after I called to fix the problem, and they assured us it will not happen again. We've had a number of questions about to optimize the settings on our Sonnen battery, and Ilum has been very helpful in getting the questions answered. I recommend this company very highly.

Add-On Installation in Oakland
Last year we moved into a house that already had 24 old Sharp monocrystalline panels that were working fine but produced insufficient power for our 2 electric cars and new, energy-efficient electric appliances. Ilum Solar had been recommended by a friend, so we contacted them to add 7 Trina Solar, each nearly twice as efficient as our old Sharp panels. Ilum's installers did a neat, effective installation on our tricky roof and we couldn't be more pleased! Clean, professional, and reasonably priced installation! We would definitely recommend Ilum to anyone, but especially folks who want to add-on but don't know if it will be viable and economical. You're likely to be pleasantly surprised!

Came back to repair within 72 hours of flagging a problem
I had Illum install panels back in January and everything was working great until one day in early july something pop'd a fuse. I didn't have much to go on other than "my solar panels aren't working and flipping the breaker off/on didn't reset it" at the time .<br /><br />Within 72 hours of initially tagging them an electrician came out, found the problem and fixed it. I can't recommend Illum enough!

Great company to do business with
My experience with Ilum Solar has been a positive one. I got exactly what was agreed upon and am very satisfied with the work that was completed. They have great customer service and followed up to make sure things we were working good a few months after the install. Would definitely recommend them!

Great price, service and follow-up
I would recommend working with Ilum Solar without hesitation. Despite having many local installers to choose from, we ultimately decided to use Ilum Solar out of Sacramento because this business showed the ability to work with a tight deadline before year end and Robert's bid was by far the most budget friendly with all American made products. Robert is always response via text, email or phone and has gone to extra mile to ensure any follow-up request has been address to our satisfaction.

Light speed install
I got in contact with illum through a third party bid aggregator and am very happy with the result. From start to "panel's on roof" was less than 3 weeks! I spent more time waiting for inspections and the NEM agreement than for illum. Throughout they always responded to my questions/concerns within a few hours and had someone come out to troubleshoot monitoring issues multiple times until they got it up.
